Shropshire Olympics ??

In the centenary year of the Paris ‘Chariots of Fire’ Olympic Games, historian Catherine Beale, (Born Out of Wenlock) tells the story of one Wenlock winner who competed at Paris, and explains why the revival of Olympian Games by a Shropshire doctor isn’t half as unlikely as it seems.

Catherine Beale is a public historian whose interests focus on rural history, including the country house, its contents, garden and estate.

This has led her to research, publish and speak on subjects as diverse as woven tapestries, Hereford cattle, ‘lost’ artworks, daffodils, and the conservatories of Sir Joseph Paxton.

She has appeared on television and radio, including, on the subject of the Wenlock Olympian Games, with Jay Blades on ‘The West Midlands through Time’ (Channel 5 October 2023).
